10.26. Opening Banquet

 It was not clear if we were all going to go but eventually we did.

I hate it when that part of the athlete briefing comes where I start to see and feel in how many potential ways, how much shit could go wrong and then again. It all collapses. Everything will be fine. I let it go. If not, we will deal with it. 

Some of the speeches were very nice, and motivating. As they were sharing all the details about how many volunteers will be out there to help us, to only help us get to the best performance of our lifetime.

Made me look forward to race day. There was a video about who potentially could come out as winners out of the pros and I thought to myself... even though I'm not going to be there to see them cross the finish line as I'll be racing out there, how cool is that... that I get to even share the same race course with them?!

Let alone being able to get a glimpse of any of them, like Lucy, Jackie, Holly or Flora?

Being here means a lot to me. Grown tired of haters, who keep explaining why or how it was easy for me to get my slot. I let them go. None of it matters but the fact that I made it. Two days till startline!

Post World Championship, 31 October

 31 October, 2022 It's hard to gather my thoughts and write about them post race, a natural self-blaming process started that I could stop before it went too far. Luckily. Why did I blame myself?  Because I didn't bring more warm layers for those two hours we had to stand around in the cold weather. Why did I not bring some if I knew it was going to be cold? Two reasons: ONE I did not have too many warm layers since I was prepared for a weather of 28C/82F and had 2C/35F instead.  TWO I did have some more things I could have put on but I was afraid of them getting lost. Seriously looking back it's crazy, I have no idea why I thought so.  Why was that an issue? I think I was not in an ideal condition for the run. I was way too hungry despite eating a lot of food on the bike.  Otherwise I did everything I could do before the race. Except for one more thing. Getting enough sleep. According to Garmin I slept 5h52min but I remember getting up to listen to some meditat...

To the finish line

 2 November So the thing is that I did it! I crossed the finish line, as a matter of fact. It was incredibly hard to understand what had just happened. We did not have a regular race, nor regular conditions that preceded it. And it was obvious from then on that it that whatever I hoped to achieve this race, was going to be close to impossible.  FINISH: Who - how - why not, if not? Ever since I completed this race... I have read various race recaps and heard various stories about it, be it the pros or the average athlete, like me, who managed to make it here.  Case studies: how come they did not finish? what if your bag does not make it?   There were some both among the women and men, who had accidents. Two men were hit on Saturday, 29 October by an intoxicated woman (drugged or drunken? investigation still ongoing). As a result, Mark (one of them) had two cervival, two lumbar vertebraes fractured, nose broken and road rash on one of his legs. I could not believe that...
